Technology Focus: Building practical web development skills while expanding a career in enterprise information technology.
Building New Skills Through Web Development
Web development has become an important part of my continuing education because it combines technical problem solving with creativity and communication. Learning HTML and CSS has helped me better understand how websites are structured, how information is presented to users, and how design choices affect usability. These skills also complement my professional background in enterprise information technology, where clear organization and reliable systems are essential. Each new project gives me an opportunity to apply technical knowledge in a different way while creating something that can be viewed and used on many types of devices.
Responsive web design is especially useful because people no longer view websites on only one type of screen. A site may be opened on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or phone, and the layout should remain readable and easy to navigate. Working with flexible widths, images, navigation, and media queries has shown me how careful planning can make one website adapt to many different environments. This is similar to enterprise IT work, where technology must support many users, devices, and situations without sacrificing reliability or accessibility.
Technology Perspective
Technology changes constantly, but the most valuable skills are the ability to keep learning, solve problems, and adapt to new tools. My experience in information technology has shown me that successful solutions depend on understanding both the technology and the people who use it. Web development adds another dimension to that experience by emphasizing presentation, accessibility, and user experience. Continuing to learn new technologies helps connect long-standing IT knowledge with modern tools and ideas.
Current Areas of Focus
- Responsive web design for desktop and mobile devices
- HTML5 semantic page structure and accessible content
- External CSS for consistent site-wide presentation
- Cybersecurity, automation, and enterprise administration
- Artificial intelligence and emerging technology
One of my goals is to continue combining traditional systems administration experience with newer areas such as web development, automation, and artificial intelligence. Enterprise platforms such as Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Exchange, and cloud services continue to evolve, making continuous learning an important part of an IT career. Adding web development skills provides another way to communicate technical information, create useful resources, and better understand the applications and services that users interact with every day.
